Lantern Parade

You’re
invited
Gather your family and friends and join this magical
event to celebrate the opening of the 2009 Taranaki International
Festival
of Arts.
Over the last few months the people of Taranaki have
been coming together in schools, community venues, and homes
to make lanterns
for this breath-taking opening of Taranaki’s tenth arts
festival.
Ethereal and exquisite, this magnificent mid-winter
parade of light and sound will weave its way through Pukekura
Park
illuminating
the landscape with a sea of lanterns. Singers and musicians
will accompany the parade as it proceeds towards its destination
at
the TSB Bowl of Brooklands.
In case of rain the parade will
still go ahead (bring gumboots, raincoats and umbrellas). In case
of appalling weather,
the parade will be postponed until the following evening..
Thurs 23 July (rain day Fri 24 July), 5.15pm
Pukekura Park, starts at the cricket ground and proceeds through
the park to the TSB Bowl of Brooklands. Listen to local radio stations
and refer to the Daily News for information.

Lantern making workshops
Join the arts festival buzz – make your own lantern or help
make a giant one for the Community Lantern Parade. This is a community
project and the lanterns will be used for the grand opening parade
of the 20099 Taranaki International Festival of the Arts. You are
welcome to come along to the workshops and get involved.
Workshops will be held during July
between 10am - 4pm
Sat 4 & Sun 5, Wed 8,
Sat 11, Sun 12 & Wed 15 July.
