Zukerman
Chamber Players, featuring Pinchas Zukerman

Recognised as a music phenomenon for forty years, Zukerman’s genius has
been a marvel to critics and audiences. His exceptional artistic standards place
him as a master of our time. Equally respected as a violinist, violist, conductor,
teacher and chamber musician, Zukerman teamed up with four protégés
in 2002 to form the Zukerman Chamber Players.
The Zukerman Chamber Players are presented by Chamber Music New
Zealand in association with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and
in partnership with the 2009 Taranaki International Festival of Arts.

Justine Cormack, cellist Ashley Brown and pianist Sarah Watkins joined
forces in 2002, becoming the Ensemble in Residence at the University
of Auckland two years later. On their international tours they have
continued to impress music lovers across the world.

food for the soul

A delectable selection of songs wrapped up in a lunchtime concert
and performed by this country’s newest and brightest singers
from the NBR New Zealand Opera.
Featured artists include Morag McDowell and three of the current
crop of PwC Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artists – Brigitte
Heuser, Andrew Grenon and Daniel O’Connor. These up-and-coming
interns will add spice to your lunch hour with some great opera favourites
including, Mozart’s delicious trio Soave sia il vento, and
some lesser-known, but emotional works like Onegin’s cold and
calculating Kogda bi zhizn.

Mapp &
Emma Sayers

A stunning lunchtime concert with two of New Zealand’s most
talented pianists. Richard Mapp is a pianist with the New Zealand
Quartet and Senior Lecturer in Piano at the New Zealand School of
Music. Emma Sayers teaches at the New Zealand School of Music, and
is a member of the Stroma Ensemble.

Amalia
Hall &
John-Paul Muir
New Zealand/Aotearoa
Muir and Hall have played in many music ensembles together with
great success. In 2003 they were members of the winning group, and
also the group that came third, in the National Final of the NZCT
Chamber Music Contest.
In 2007, they were members of a trio awarded the ROSL Arts/Pettman
International Chamber Music Scholarship of $50,000 to travel to the
UK for four weeks later this year where they will perform and attend
master classes.
Muir graduated from the University of Auckland School of Music with
a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in performance piano
in 2007. Hall is undertaking post-graduate study at the Curtis Institute
of Music in Philadelphia.
